NOT IN OUR NAME
OPEN LETTER
We, Jews of France, in all our diversity, are forming a collective to denounce the war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by Israel in occupied Gaza and the West Bank: we do not consent to them being committed in our name!
We are the heirs of an ancient culture and, above all, of an ethical and moral code that cares for the poor, widows, orphans, and strangers. We are also the descendants of a tragic history. We will never accept that an institution, State, or individual speak in our name while infringing upon these values and heritage.
After the terrible massacre of October 7, 2023, the Israeli government embarked on an endless war of revenge that is leading to the death of an entire people, the Palestinian people, and driving its own country into the abyss. Through its criminal acts, it is contributing to the rise of anti-Semitism around the world. Furthermore, by trying to make people believe that any criticism of its policy is anti-Semitic, this government is creating terrible confusion. This, too, we formally denounce.
Thousands of innocent Palestinians —men, women, children, the elderly, the sick— are being bombed, starved, and murdered. An entire culture is being destroyed. This reminds us of another tragic era.
We will not forget.
We cannot and must not remain silent.
We, the Jews of France, refuse to bow to the demands of political and community leaders to remain silent so as not to violate a false Jewish consensus.
We stand in solidarity with the people of Gaza and the West Bank, as well as all the peoples of the region who are suffering from the Israeli army's bombardments.
The International Criminal Court has investigated and identified those who are committing these war crimes and crimes against humanity.
We demand that they be brought to justice.
All peoples of the world are equal in humanity; they all have the right to live in harmony and peace. The rights of Palestinians, like those of all peoples, must be recognized and protected.
We commend those in Palestine and Israel who are fighting for the two peoples to coexist in mutual respect and with equal rights.
Without law and justice, “might makes right” thinking predominates, establishing a war of all against all. The world returns to barbarism.
Today, now, there is an urgent need for action!
International law must be enforced.
We, Jews, demand that France, the European Union, and all international bodies intervene immediately using all means at their disposal, including economic and diplomatic sanctions. Reason must prevail over the will to power, and the fire must cease the Middle East. Beyond our diverse sense of belonging to the Jewish world, we invite all those who share our indignation and identify with our values to join us and participate in our actions.
